Austin’s Week 3 DFS Player Pool

Alright guys, it’s Week 3 and this has already been a crazy, but profitable season. We are seeing a changing of the guard at the Quarterback position due to injury and poor play (sorry Eli). This year seems to be an anomaly with breakout rookies at the Wide Receiver and Tight End positions. Terry McLaurin looks like a legitimate WR1 in Washington and TJ Hockensen set the world on fire in Week 1. The Vikings appear committed to #establishtherun and Dalvin Cook is exactly what we hoped he’d be coming out of Florida State. We are seeing chemistry start to form and workloads normalize and at now have a 2 week sample to draw from. As a result, I begin to play more of my bankroll as we approach Week 3 and 4 and ramp up from there. So, let’s dig in to the player pool for Week 3:

This week feels pretty straightforward in Cash games (50/50’s & Double-Ups). Pay up for the stud RBs in Barkley, Zeke Elliott, and Cook because there’s no need to play any WR this week over $5k. In fact, it’s fine if all 3 are below $4k, depending on your risk aversion. For tournaments, you may get contrarian and jam in guys like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Kenny Golladay, but I have no problem rolling out Nelson Agholor, Devin Smith, and Emmanuel Sanders in Cash. Ekeler also is beginning to feel like a lock in cash, so continue to fire him up while the Chargers ride him into the ground until Melvin Gordon comes back. Chris Carson is also pretty cheap and Penny is banged up, but the defensive line for the Saints will be no cakewalk. Frank Gore is shaping up to be what I fear is bad chalk with Singletary out. Could be a value trap and Yeldon may be more involved than people think, so beware, but can’t deny the matchup against Cincy is juicy.

Quarterback is also pretty simple this week. There’s really only 4 options for me and it depends in what direction you want to go with the rest of your build. Mahomes, Jackson, Dak, and Josh Allen are all in great spots. Look at Stafford and Wentz in tournaments stacks and don’t be shocked to see some Mason Rudolph/Daniel Jones/Kyle Allen stacks because the salary savings let’s you do some nutty things elsewhere.

I’m paying up at TE this week. Mark Andrews is the new George Kittle. He consistently goes out and dominates and is in the marquee matchup this week against Kansas City. The contrarian play here may be to pay all the way up for Kelce. I also don’t mind Evan Engram since he figures to be the security blanket and first read for Danny Dimes this week. Austin Hooper continues to quietly put in work and remains underrated and under-priced. Zach Ertz is probably my favorite TE for tournaments. It’s a great pivot off of the Nelson Agholor chalk and he could seriously see 10-15 targets with all the injuries in Philly this week.

For Defense, it’s become clear you want to fire up whoever plays the Dolphins, but Draft Kings and FanDuel have caught on and priced them way up after the Patriots broke the slate last week. Honestly, you can just fire up the Pats again this week for a little discount against the Jets, led by third string QB Luke Falk. If you’re punting, I don’t mind the Saints. The Seahawks still don’t have an offensive line and always give up a few sacks a game. Former DROY Marshon Lattimore is back to form and figures to shadow Tyler Lockett, but defensive back PJ Williams could get bullied out by rising star DK Metcalf.

If you plan to game stack, it is usually a good idea to run it back with some players for the opposing team. I.E. if you’re stacking Lamar Jackson, Hollywood Brown, and Andrews, run it back with Sammy Watkins or Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson
