Coaches’ Picks – Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week 14

Start ‘Em

Ryan Tannehill @ OAK – Continue to stay in the flames with Tannewheels this week as he travels to the Black Hole to take on the Oakland Raiders, who are 4th in Points Allowed to QBs, averaging 21.8 FPPG. If you’re a gambling man, the Tits are -3 somehow, so smash that spread if you want some free money.

Jameis Winston vs IND – Jameis has been flames this year, averaging nearly 22 FPPG. Now he draws a depleted Colts team at home in Tampa Bay that’s been getting carved up lately by the likes of Ryan Tannehill, Nick Foles, and Ryan Fitzmagic.

Jacoby Brissett @ TB – On the other side of the ball, Jacoby will head into Tampa down TY Hilton and Eric Ebron, but rookie Parris Campbell will be back in action. Jack Doyle feasted last week in a featured role, and TB’s secondary is non-existent. The Bucs are giving up 21.8 FPPG to QBs, tied for 4th most in the league.

Matt Ryan vs CAR – After canning Riverboat Ron, the Panthers travel to the dome with Kyle Allen and interim HC Perry Fewell to take on this revitalized Falcons squad. Matty Ice has been money this year averaging 21.5 FPPG and should have Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman back to take some pressure off Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage to allow them to go back to more complementary roles.

Carson Wentz vs NYG – The Eagles were humiliated last week in Miami, but now travel home to face Eli’s Giants. Well, well, well how the turn tables. Despite the embarrassing loss, Wentz finally put up a decent box score with his passing weapons(?) back in the lineup, going for over 28 fantasy points. This Monday night treat is currently set at 45.5 O/U, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see it climb as the week goes on. –

*Start of the Week – Kirk Cousins vs DET

*Long Shots of the Week – Devlin Hodges @ ARI, Gardner Minshew vs LAC, Eli Manning @ PHI

Running Backs

James White vs KC – Coming off a career game, continue to ride James White in your PPR leagues. Last week, he saw 14 carries and 11 targets tallying 37.7 fantasy points. White faces another positive game script against the Chiefs in Foxborough this week, who are 2nd in PA to RBs, averaging 24.5 FPPG.

Le’Veon Bell vs MIA – The Fins are 4th in PA to RBS, averaging 22.5 FPPG. Bell is no longer the sexy play he once was in Pittsburgh, but he provides a double digit floor with a 25 point ceiling he’s not quite reached this season.

Melvin Gordon @ JAX – The Jags have been eviscerated in the run game lately, ranking 6th in PA, surrendering 21.6 FPPG. MG3 has dominated the touches since the release of the Whiz as OC, and the Chargers should continue to lean on him in this road game, as Rivers is looking worse for wear.

Devonta Freeman vs CAR – If there were ever a time to fire up Devonta Freeman, it would be in Week 14 at home against the 1st ranked Panthers, who are allowing 25.8 FPPG to running backs. Last week he saw a healthy 17 carries and 5 targets against a stout Saints squad, so he should make short work of this Panthers front.

Mark Ingram @ BUF – This should actually be a great game between young guns Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. We’ve seen recently you can run on this Bills team and I believe that’s exactly what Jackson and Ingram will do. If you follow Ian Hartiz on Twitter and/or play DFS, you’ve likely come to know him for his Chopper calls. Last week was Mark Ingram for 100+ and 2 TDs, but I think he might’ve just been a week early.

*Starts of the Week – Derrick Henry @ OAK, Leonard Fournette vs LAC, Nick Chubb vs CIN

*Long Shots of the Week – Kareem Hunt vs CIN, Alexander Mattison vs DET, Derrius Guice @ GB

Wide Receivers

Stefon Diggs vs DET – I love Diggs this week despite matching up against CB Darius Slay. Thielen is still not healthy and may sit out again, leaving Olabisi Johnson and the two TE’s rounding out the pass attack for Kirk Cousins. The Lions are 5th in PA to WRs, averaging over 25 FPPG.

Kenny Golladay @ MIN – Babytron is hungry again after he feasted on Thanksgiving against the Bears with David Blough. He caught 4 of 5 for 158 yards and a touchdown. Now he faces the Minnesota pass funnel and fake elite CB Xavier Rhodes, who has always struggled to contain Marvin Jones and Kenny G. The Vikings are tied for 5th in PA, averaging 25.4 FPPG to WRs.

AJ Brown @ OAK – AJ was a little quiet last week in the win over the Colts, only reeling in 3 of 4 targets for 45 yards. Look for him to bounce back this week in what should be an easy win against the 11th ranked Raiders, who are giving up 24.2 FPPG to WRs.

Devante Parker @ NYJ – Parker has ascended into must-start territory. The 5th year break-out has always had the talent, but has finally put it all together – it just took a little Fitzmagic. After a stellar performance last week, he draws the Jets who are top 10 in PA to WRs, averaging nearly 25 FPPG.

Alshon Jeffery vs NYG – Alshon’s presence was sorely missed by Carson Wentz. He went caught 9/16 for 137 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins and now he gets the Giants soft secondary. NYG is allowing 28.4 FPPG to WRs, 2nd most in the league.

*Starts of the Week – DJ Moore vs ATL, Mike Evans & Chris Godwin vs IND

*Long Shots of the Week – NYG WRs (Tate, Shepard, Slayton), Robby Anderson vs MIA, *Zach Pascal @ TB

Tight Ends

Darren Waller vs TEN – With Renfrow’s absence and facing negative game script, Waller finally had a good game, going 7/9 for 100 yards. He should face a similar situation this week against the Titans, who struggle to cover TEs, allowing the 7th most fantasy points in the league.

Vance McDonald @ ARI – This week we’re finally doin’ the Vance Dance against the Flowchart Cardinals. Congrats, Buzzards. You’ve made it.

Jonnu Smith @ OAK – Jonnu has been quiet the last few weeks after erupting shortly after Delanie Walker’s exit. If you’re in a pinch, I like him this week against the Raiders, who are tied for the 3rd most fanatasy points allowed to TEs.

*Start of the Week – Jack Doyle @ TB

*Long Shots of the Week – Tyler Higbee vs SEA, *Ian Thomas @ ATL

Titans @ Raiders – The Raiders have only scored 1 touchdown (12 total points) the last 2 weeks against the Jets and Chiefs. Woof. Fire up the Tits.

Packers vs Washington – Washington gives up about 10 FPPG to opposing D/STs and with rookie Dwayne Haskins at the helm, turnovers are just waiting to happen.

Saints vs 49ers – I think this could be a very, very low scoring game. Jimmy G is more than capable of turning the ball over and the Saints are a stout defense. I expect to see a lot of the RBs in this game with the passing games both struggling to move the ball.

*Long Shots of the Week – Dolphins @ Jets, Browns vs Bengals

Sit ‘Em

Kyler Murray vs PIT – Murray has shown us why he was taken 1st overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has been a rock-solid fantasy football QB, but this week he comes up against the Steeler’s defense that has been equally solid this season. They give up the 8th fewest fantasy points to QB’s this season at just 14.7 FPPG and just shut down Baker Mayfield for 8.04 fantasy points last week.

Josh Allen vs BAL – Besides looking good in shorts, Josh Allen has been a monster in fantasy football terms this season. He has blossomed into a top 10 option and should stay in that range for years to come. Unfortunately for him, he goes up against Baltimore this week in what is most likely everyone’s fantasy football playoffs. Baltimore has been on an absolute tear lately shutting down QB’s. Through their last 3 match-ups, they have given up an average of 6.48 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Nuts.

Drew Brees vs SF – Last week, San Fran was the first team in a little over a month of football to be able to slightly slow down Lamar Jackson. I think Drew Brees, who has looked a little off since coming back from injury, will not be a winning play this week.

Running Backs

Devin Singletary vs BAL – The little guy that plays like a giant comes up against the red hot Baltimore Ravens. If you are in the fantasy playoffs, you need either a safe floor guy or someone that can explode for game-winning points. I don’t think Singletary is either of those for this match-up. Baltimore comes into the game with the 6th ranked rush defense in the league.

Todd Gurley vs SEA – FACT: During this season, every week that Todd Gurley gets over 16 carries, he follows it up by getting less carries the next week. This past week he got 19. He is going to be a risky play this week against the Seahawks 8th ranked rush defense. McVay went on record stating he’s been an idiot for not using Gurley more, but I’m no expert in deciphering coach-speak. Fire him up at your own risk in your round 1 playoff match-ups. .

Kenyan Drake vs PIT – Is David Johnson dead? I’ve heard he still plays, but I haven’t seen him lately. With Chase Edmonds healthy and DJ still in the back of Drake owners’ heads, he comes up against the 5th ranked defense this week that just kept Nick Chubb to 80 scrimmage yards.

*Marlon Mack @ TB – Marlon Mack returned to practice and is looking like he is going to play this week. You haven’t started him for the last two weeks and you probably shouldn’t start him again this week when he comes back healthy. He heads down to Tampa Bay who gives up the 2nd fewest points to RB’s this season at just 11.4 FPPG, only .02 more than the number one Pats.

Wide Receivers

Allen Robinson vs DAL – ARob has been going bonkers lately, but goes up against Byron Jones this week who has been a low key shut down corner. Personally, I’d still start ARob unless my team is stacked, but I can see him getting shut down this week. Jones kept Kenny Golladay to one catch for 34 yards and John Brown to 3 catches for 26 yards.

DJ Chark vs LAC – Minshew Mania 2.0? Either way, with Foles or Minshew, Chark is a risky play this week when he comes up against the solid 4th ranked pass defense in the league in the first round of fantasy playoffs.

Tyler Lockett @ LAR – Tyler was battling the flu and laid a goose egg last week against the Vikes. This week I don’t expect a 0-point performance, but I don’t expect much. Besides when Lamar came to town, the Rams have been keeping opposing WR1’s down. Last week Christian Kirk got shut down to 3 catches on 7 targets for 23 yards.

Christian Kirk vs PIT – I don’t feel great about any Cardinal this week against Pittsburgh. He’ll probably see a lot of attention from the Steeler’s 5th ranked defense that will keep rookie QB Kyler Murray honest.

Tight Ends

Jared Cook vs SF – Who gives up the fewest fantasy points to TE’s? The Niners. Who has zero faith in Cook for my playoff matchup? Me.

Dallas Goedert vs NYG – Can we take a moment to appreciate Goedert for being the first viable TE2 on a team since Aaron “Gone Forever” Hernandez. Sit him this week against the 5th best TE defense in the league that is allowing 5.5 FPPG to TE’s.

Mike Gesicki @ NYJ – The Jets are giving up the 4th fewest points to TE’s. Honestly, if you’ve made it this far in your league, you probably don’t have Gesicki, but I needed one more TE to list and he’s been hot the last few.

Bears vs Cowboys – The Cowboys are on the struggle bus at the moment, but are still giving up the second-fewest points to opposing DST’s averaging just 3.5 FPPG only topped by Lamar Jackson.

Patriots vs Chiefs – Are the Pats collapsing? I doubt it, but they are in a slump. Patrick Mahomes should be looking for revenge from last year’s AFC Championship game.

Broncos @ Texans – The Texans (Deshaun Watson) have been rolling these past two weeks and recently exposed the New England Patriots. Denver couldn’t stop the Chargers, and I doubt they can stop the Texans.

Buffalo vs Lamar Jackson –
